Dr. Nirmal Singh was born on 22 January 1956 to a humble family in Karanwara Basohli, J&K. He has done Ph.D. in history from the University of Jammu in 1988. He started taking an active interest in political activities at a young age. After serving the ABVP as a pracharak in different parts of the country, he took the mantle of the J&K State President, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, and following a directive from the RSS joined the BJP.
Dr Nirmal Singh was among the first politicians from Jammu to demand the Reorganisation of the State of Jammu and Kashmir on a regional basis amid heavy discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh regions by Kashmir centric state governments and he acted as a strong voice against the justice to Jammu. While he was the State President of Bharatiya Janata Party he released a booklet containing figures to show how Jammu was discriminated against by the state government. He Led many demonstrations on various occasions to voice against the atrocities and injustice done to the people of Jammu.
Dr. Singh is a well-endorsed name among all sections of the society and across political parties and is often referred to as an intellectual cum politician silently working for the masses. He is being recognized and welcomed by all irrespective of any religion, caste, or creed. Dr. Singh has also represented India in various countries on various occasions to represent India’s stand on Kashmir and peace initiatives in the area.
As Minister of Power, he worked for the 100% electrification of J&K under many schemes including the center-funded ‘Power for All’ scheme. He also launched the initiative of providing electricity to 53 un-electrified villages of Kishtwar, Kupwara, Bandipora, Leh, and Kargil in the Off-Grid Mode from Kishtwar.
Today, he is working with the same missionary zeal and contributing his bit in shaping New J&K under the guiding force of PM Modi Ji with his vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”.
